Q&A
Q. Recently I've attended a number of weddings that didn't make use of a receiving line. Is it an antiquated tradition?

A. A receiving line isn't antiquated, nor is it required. The only requirement is that the bride, groom and hosts speak with all of their guests. For large weddings (75 or more people), a receiving line—either just after the ceremony or as guests enter the reception—offers the most efficient way to do this. At smaller events, you may opt to leave the receiving line out and instead greet guests casually at their tables during the reception.
