Q. I own a small company that employs about 25 people. I'd love to invite every one of them to my wedding, but that would seriously blow my budget. Is it best to ask none of them in order to avoid hard feelings?
A. When the guest list must be pared down, it's fine to exclude work associates entirely. Or if you choose to invite only a few colleagues, be sure to make logical decisions, such as asking only your assistant, the department heads or those co-workers with whom you're closest—and remember to include their spouses, fiancés or live-in partners as well. Whatever you choose to do, you can diffuse expectations among your staff by letting them know early on that you'd prefer to include everyone but need to keep your wedding small. That way, you'll prevent employees from feeling that they're not getting invited because either their work is subpar or you don't value them.
