Q&A
Q. A colleague has graciously offered to throw a bridal shower for me. I'm flattered but hadn't planned on inviting her to the wedding. (If I do, I'll have to ask everyone else from the office.) What should I do?

A. Decline her invitation, but also explain your dilemma. Once she's aware of the situation, your friend may want to throw the shower anyway—which is perfectly appropriate. Since most people couldn't possibly afford to invite all their co-workers to their wedding, it has become acceptable to celebrate the occasion with work friends separately.
