Q&A
Q. My fiancé and I met while volunteering, so we'd like to make a donation to the charity that brought us together in lieu of giving favors. We're a bit concerned, though, because not everyone may agree with the causes the organization supports. Are we obligated to designate another nonprofit in its place?

A. Making charitable donation is not only appropriate, but also generous and respectable. While some guests may be put off by your choice, you should proceed with what you and your fiance feel comfortable with, especially since picking an organization that appeals to everyone is virtually impossible. If you're still worried about offending certain guests, communicate the donation quietly, perhaps with a small mention in the ceremony program.
