A. Apply a primer before the foundation. Brett Freedman, a makeup artist in L.A. (Sharon Stone and Paris Hilton are clients), likes Benefit Dr. Feelgood ($26; benefitcosmetics.com). "It fills in fine lines and leaves a smooth, matte finish," he says. Because heat from your fingers can break down the primer's silicone base, Freedman advises blending it with a sponge to create a sheer layer on your face.
