Compare Details Bridal headpieces come in a vast range of prices. One main factor in the price of a piece is its components, says Bridgit Levis, owner of Bridal Headpiece Collection in Fort Lauderdale. A veil edged with organza will cost more than a plain one. The price of a tiara embellished with real seed pearls will be higher than one with artificial pearls. If you fall in love with a pricey headpiece, ask to see something comparable but less expensive. Most bridal stores carry similar looks at varying price points, Levis says.
Get Creative For small hair accessories such as combs or pins, consider widening your search beyond wedding boutiques. You may save money if the accessory is not specifically designed as a bridal piece, says N.Y.C. hairstylist and salon owner Paul Labrecque. If it suits the look of your dress and wedding, pass up the headpiece altogether and accessorize with fresh flowers, which are beautiful and far less expensive.
Do It Yourself If you're the crafty type, you can save money by making your own accessory. Sewing companies such as Butterick, McCall's and Simplicity offer basic patterns for easy-to-make veils in various lengths (from $7.50; sewingpatterns.com), or buy a precut tulle veil (from $10; joann.com) and stitch it to a tiara (an antique-looking headband with Austrian crystal flowers and leaves is $49 at tiaratown.com).
