Q. Is it possible to plan a destination wedding without visiting the location before the big day?
A. If you are working with vendors you have confidence in, or if you've hired a planner, you may not need to visit. These days the websites of most hotels and resorts allow you to get a great sense of the place. However, if you have the time and means to make the trip, it is well worth it. "I like to do site inspections of the locations we're considering for the weekend's events," says Mindy Weiss of L.A., who planned Heidi Klum and Seal's wedding in Mexico. "I also like to do menu tastings with the catering manager; meet with the officiant, florist and DJ; and look at rooms in the hotels where the guests might stay."
