Q. What are the challenges of getting married in a location that is outside the United States?
A. You may have to deal with a large time difference, as well as a language barrier, both of which can make communicating with your vendors more difficult. "For weddings in Mexico I take Spanish-speaking employees with us to help us get through customs," says Jeffrey Best. "Rather than relying on a local translator, bring someone who has been involved in the process all along." You will also have fewer options in terms of vendors, including officiants and musicians. Gregoli says she has had difficulty finding rabbis in Italy and on several islands in the Caribbean, including Anguilla. Adds Jung Lee, "In some places the talent is going to be fairly limited. For example, if you choose to get married in the Caribbean, your band will most likely have a Caribbean feel to it."
