At Sex and the City executive producer Cindy Chupack's reception, shown here, planner Jung Lee of Fête in N.Y.C. hung 96 ivory lanterns, ranging in diameter from 22 to 42 inches (from $8.60 each, paperlanternstore.com), and lit only about half, using standard bulbs. (Planner Natalie McAdams of Namevents in Santa Monica created a similar look for Nicole Richie's engagement party.) "Nothing else has such a dramatic effect at such a reasonable price," says Lee. A pretty party space, in other words, is made with the shades.
